Put a Ring Around It!

Updated: Sep 6

I was going to talk about the latest trends in wedding florals for my September Blog issue, however, being bumped back into Alert Level 4 I know will have thrown a lot of couples into a wedding turmoil. So I thought I would talk about some different wedding options to consider if you still want to go ahead and tie the knot, at Alert Level 3 and below the levels.

But before I carry on, it is important to note that no Weddings can go ahead at Level 4, but I'm sure the message has got through now.

Let’s start with the

Wed Now Party Later:

Registry Weddings or Elopements fit into this category. And you get to choose the location which opens up all kinds of creative possibilities, so let your imagination run wild… It costs $90.00 to hire a celebrant under the registry wedding scenario, and with the Marriage Licence costing $150.00 it makes for a very attractive option for many couples.

Just the two of you to say “I do” and two witnesses are needed to make it official along with a celebrant, then you can party later with a larger group of friends or head off to your favourite restaurant.

Check out the CANZ website for celebrants who are registered to officiate Registry style weddings:

Or use the BDM website for listed Registry registered Celebrants

So let’s take a look at a Micro Wedding:

Bearing in mind you legally require two witnesses, a micro wedding can be anything from 10 to 50 people.

Weddings in New Zealand
wedding tips

It is normally a small affair as the name suggests but that doesn't stop you from having the time-honoured traditions. In fact, you can be even more creative with your location because its small right… so use your imagination, on top of a mountain, a breakfast wedding, by the lake, on a rooftop, your fave restaurant, or outside your favourite architectural building, which means you can use the existing backdrop to frame your wedding and save on flowers and extras. And of course, you have to adorn yourself with finery, it doesn't have to be a gown or tuxedo but dressing up makes your special day memorable.

Note: One tip here if you are having a small gathering it really does make it possible to invest in a good photographer.

Hopefully by the time this blog is published some of the country will have moved to alert level 3 and these options can be a reality.

Until then don't stop planning and dreaming of a celebration that is chock full of joy and love.

Here’s the link to getting your marriage license, which is valid for 3 months and as already mentioned costs $150.00.
