“Love is the answer and you know that for sure.
Love is a flower You got to let it, you gotta let it grow”
- John Lennon
I think we have all felt the strain of living under a level 4 lockdown, especially those of us in Auckland. It has definitely felt like a long haul, drifting aimlessly, and working to find some meaning to each day.
I started this blog whilst still in Level 4 with the greatest of expectations that come to publishing time in October we would be at Level 2, so fingers crossed.
However that aside, brightening up my days is the Spring vibe that is definitely in the air, with fresh scented smells and the buds bursting into full bloom all around us. Spring does however brings with it hope and expectation of newness in our lives and to use a quote from Victor Hugo:
"Life is the flower for which love is the Honey"
I thought it was the right time to talk about wedding florals, and really no matter what season you are planning to tie the knot, flowers form a big part of the style and vibe of your special day.
So whatever your style and vibe, be it elegant, simple, wild, whimsical, fanciful, classic or contemporary. I decided to ask florist Bianca Nardella owner of Dirt Floral what is trending right now for 2021-2022 wedding florals and what she considers when curating flowers and installations for a wedding.
Bianca Nardella is a really cool woman who lives and works in the iconic wedding location of Marlborough, where she creates super stunning artistic floral designs and installations, sourcing produce locally where she can.
Bianca really listens to her clients and will create a stunning floral vibe that will definitely rock your special day.
Bianca, what do you have to consider with a bridal couple to create and set their style, mood and groove?
Keep it visual! When creating a style or mood for my clients I would usually tell them to create their own mood board. This helps them with their own ideas / gets them excited for the day. This also gives me a vibe of what the client is after so I can understand their needs.
Do you curate a colour palette for a wedding couple? and if so what are the considerations?
As far as colour palettes go this usually comes back to the mood board. A lot of brides do have strong visions of colour and I help this come alive. Talking through what’s available for the season always pushing for local flowers. Local and seasonal is important to me and my brand. Of course, sometimes you do have to order in for specific flowers but I keep the majority local.
If they need help I would suggest colours to match the surroundings or the season in which they are getting married. Also keeping it simple and asking what they love! What colours bring them joy!
How do you go about designing florals for a wedding?
I’m a very visual person. As soon as I see their vision I know my limits and how much I can play with the flowers.
I love to go wild and bright! Weddings should be fun!
What do you consider first?
I always consider the space and season first of all.
If the bride is wanting flowers that are out of season or an arrangement that’s not going to work in the space I would help her decide on a similar look or suggest a fresh idea.
I always work together with the bride in allowing her to feel confident with me to create flowers for her special day. Gaining their trust.
I have also had quite a few brides that just say go for it I trust you! That’s always fun 🌸
What can be the challenges?
Weather! Creating outdoor arrangements, the wind is never on your side...
There are always little challenges with installation but there are always ways to get around them and I have yet to strike a flower challenge.
And finally here’s what she has to say about what is trending for the wedding season
Bright, and bold with clashing colours!!!
Flowers bring so much joy! I can’t wait to start the new wedding season!
Celebrate love and life, so if you have recently dropped a knee and put a ring on it then I’d love to hear about your wedding plans so let's chat.
